Affiliate Disclosure
Lisbon by Rail participates in affiliate marketing programs. This page explains how those partnerships work, what they mean for our editorial independence, and how you can support us without spending an extra cent.
The short version
What is an affiliate link?
An affiliate link is a special URL that includes a tracking code identifying us as the source of the referral. When you click an affiliate link and complete a qualifying action (usually a purchase) on the partner website, the partner pays us a small percentage of that sale as a commission.
The price you pay is exactly the same whether you use our link or go directly to the partner’s website. The commission comes out of the partner’s marketing budget, not your pocket.
Which programs we participate in
As of 2026, Lisbon by Rail is enrolled in or applying to the following affiliate programs:
- GetYourGuide Partner Program — for tours, attraction tickets and city passes.
- Booking.com Affiliate Partner Programme — for hotel and accommodation bookings.
- Welcome Pickups — for airport transfers and private rides.
- Amazon Associates — for travel-related products such as luggage, adapters, and travel cards (where relevant).
- Tiqets and Klook — additional partners for attraction tickets in Lisbon and beyond.
We may add new partners over time. When we do, we update this page.
Our editorial principles
Affiliate income is one way we keep Lisbon by Rail running, but it cannot be the only filter applied to our content. To make sure commercial incentives never compromise the quality of what we publish, we follow these principles:
1. We recommend based on quality, not commission
Different partners offer different commission rates. We do not pick recommendations based on which one pays more. When we suggest a tour or transfer service, it is because we believe — based on our research, reviews and reader feedback — that it is genuinely a good option for the kind of visitor described in the article.
2. We say no when it makes sense
If a tour is overpriced, an airport transfer service has consistently bad reviews, or a hotel chain receives complaints we cannot dismiss, we say so. Even when there is a commission available, we will recommend a competitor or no booking at all if that is the honest answer.
3. Free alternatives are always mentioned
For most things in Lisbon, there is a free or much cheaper alternative to the paid options affiliates offer. We always mention these alongside the commercial options, so that you can make an informed decision based on your priorities.
4. We do not run sponsored content
None of our articles is paid for by transport operators, tour companies, hotels or tourism boards. We do not accept payments for positive coverage. We do not insert paid product placements into our editorial guides.
5. Disclosure is explicit
Where an article contains affiliate links, this is disclosed in a visible note at the top or near the relevant links. This page provides the full, blanket disclosure required by the United States Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the Spanish Ley de Servicios de la Sociedad de la Información (LSSI), and the European Union’s broader regulations on commercial communication.
How you can support us
